Health staff in the Highlands have been thanked for their efforts by Scotland’s health chief amid ongoing challenges.

Caroline Lamb, chief executive of NHS Scotland, visited Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

“I am incredibly grateful to the staff at Raigmore and NHS Highland for making the time to speak with me about the challenges they are facing, “ she said.

“We know this is the most difficult time in the NHS’s 75 year history and I and my colleagues are meeting staff across the country to look at any further support they need.

“We’ve brought in a range of measures to help staff wellbeing – and as well as hearing about the ongoing challenges the pandemic has caused, we also want to hear what is working on the ground to ensure quality patient care.”

NHS Highland under significant pressure

An NHS Highland spokeswoman said Ms Lamb, who was joined by John Burns, NHS Scotland’s chief operating officer, had thanked everyone for their “extraordinary effort”.

“They also spent time with colleagues from acute care, primary care and our vaccination team to hear first-hand from them what it has been like,” she added.
