AN information leaflet is being launched by Highland Council to help outline the support available on Skye following the Covid-19 outbreak at Home Farm care home.

The local authority said it had put a range of measures in place to help those in the Portree community who have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

The hotspot has infected 59 people – 30 residents and 29 staff – and killed almost a quarter of the 34 residents who live at the care home

This included the new information leaflet, which is being distributed to help those affected understand the various kinds of support on offer.

This includes support with helping people get access to food and prescriptions, to advice on welfare benefits and financial support.

The leaflet, which is being distributed by NHS Highland to staff, residents and their families, signposts readers to the council’s helpline – 0300 303 1362 – and also provides a list of useful local contact details.

Highland Council leader, Cllr Margaret Davidson said: “We wanted to provide people with as much helpful information as possible at this difficult time and to make sure everyone is made aware of the support that is available.

“I want to thank the team behind the production of the leaflet for their quick work in pulling together the details and I want to assure anyone affected that our staff are ready to help in any way they can to provide confidential support.”

She added: “My heart goes out to all of the Care Home residents, staff and their families at this very difficult time.”
