New children’s nursery plans get the go-ahead

Plans to turn the former Elmgrove House nursing home in Ballifeary Road into a children’s nursery have been approved. Objections had been raised by some neighbours of the property worried about noise and the impact on parking having an effect on surrounding tourist accommodation.

“Inverness is in desperate need of nursery places. I’m sure this will bring new life to this old building. I hope it’s a huge success for them.” - Barbara McArthur

“Great that this lovely building will no longer be left to rot. Excellent child care facilities are needed in Inverness. Good luck to them.” - Ruth Coyne

“I can imagine that the many B&B properties in the area have their fair share of noise with guests coming and going. Tourism in this area is important but more important are facilities like a nursery for an ever growing city. I wish them well for the future.” - Sara Ferguson

Meeting to consider buy-out of city’s oldest building

The potential future of the Old High Church in Inverness will be discussed at a public meeting this month. The A-listed building - which has links to the Battle of Culloden, Highland regiments and the historic drama series Outlander- has been placed back on the market by the Church of Scotland after a previously-agreed sale with an anonymous bidder fell through in November.

“In the right hands this historic building could be the centre piece of something big.” - Richard Paxton

“Council could buy it and turn it into the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. They could then proceed to flatten upper Bridge Street like they said they would.” - Brian Mackinnon

“I didn't realise this was Inverness's oldest building. Why haven't the council bought it? It would cost less than the Gathering Place did and they could turn it in to a community space and museum...” - Dave Maciver
