There will be free ice skating sessions for youngsters, between eight and 15 years old, at Inverness Ice Centre on Saturday between 2pm and 4.30pm.

It is the result of a partnership between Webuyanycar.com and British Ice Skating and is aimed at inspiring the next generation of skating talent.

Inverness is one of 10 ice rinks across the UK taking part in the initiative and places, which will be allocated on a first come first-come, first-served basis, will be capped at 50.

Michelle Draper, CEO of British Skating, said: "We're excited to be working with webuyanycar.com for the second time to support this series of events and to encourage people to try the sport.

"Britain has produced a number of exceptional skaters over the years and we're always keen for new skaters to have a go, you never know when the next Torvill and Dean are going to come along.

"Ice skating is a great activity for all the family to enjoy and be active together. We're on a mission to engage more people in the sport and hope that these events will help to spark a new found love for ice skating in those that are new to the sport."

Richard Evans, head of technical services at webuyanycar.com, said: "We're delighted to have partnered with British Ice Skating again this winter and ten ice rinks across the UK to host this series of festive family events.

He added that, over the years, they had bought many thousands of cars from customers in the Inverness-Shire area and they were pleased to be giving something back to the local community.

Adults may only ice skate during the session if they are assisting a child and each attending child and adult must have their own ticket.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to the ice rink and the responsible adult must stay for the duration of the session.
