POPULAR Inverness baker Harry Gow has closed its local bakeries for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus.

A spokesman for the bakery team said it was a difficult decision.

"As you can imagine, for a local bakery who love nothing more than serving our communities – this has been far from an easy decision," he said.

"The recent Covid-19 pandemic is affecting daily life as we know it and at the forefront of our concerns and values is the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers.

"As a business, we must take responsibility and play our vital part in minimising the spread of this virus and this includes following the social distancing guidelines. This being part of the reason for our closure.

"Our staff have been incredible over the last few weeks, keeping a smile on their face and bringing joy to those who visit our stores, working extra hard to keep up with additional supply and demand – for this, we cannot thank them enough.

"And to our wonderful customers, who have supported us continuously – thank you. Our bakeries have continued to flourish during these adverse times and we are eternally grateful.

"We know that for many people, we are an important part of the local food chain, but don’t fret – we will be working hard to continue supplying our freshly baked Harry Gow goodies to over 30 Co-Op stores. You can visit our website for further details on where these are located.

"This decision has been made with each and every one of you in mind, we wish you all good health during this time and look forward to welcoming you with a smile again soon."
