AN Inverness hairdresser organised a ladies’ day to kickstart her fundraising campaign for a charity dance contest.

Strictly Inverness participant Jade Kennedy (34), staged the event at Paul Mulvaney Salon in Academy Street. Guests were treated to prosecco, live music by the Citrus Scene band and massages, with sandwiches offered by Lettuce Eat.

Mrs Kennedy is one of the 32 participants to take part to the contest organised by Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre, where the event will be held from May 13 to May 16.

She said: “I decided to put my name in for Strictly after a friend took part in last year’s edition. I was among the audience and being there imagining myself on the dancefloor gave me the goosebumps.

“I was so happy when they told me I had been selected. It will be a dream to be on the dancefloor in front of so many people. My dance partner Mike [Howitt] and I get along really well. We clicked straight away and lessons are good fun, although he forgot to catch me a couple of times in the first few weeks. It hasn’t happened again though, and being seven weeks into training, we are making a lot of progress.

“My friends and family are incredibly supportive – I couldn’t do this without them.

“And helping the Highland Hospice is a great cause as I know that it has meant a lot to so many people in the Highlands.”

Mrs Kennedy has a dance-themed fundraiser with DJ Ryz planned for the Tooth and Claw in Inverness on March 21 and a live music night with the Shire band at Craigmonie Hotel on April 17.
