Inverness hairdresser offers free cuts for NHS workers after the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown is lifted

An Inverness salon owner is offering free hair cuts to NHS staff as a way of saying thank you for their efforts in fighting coronavirus.
From the first Sunday after working restrictions are lifted, Matt Hall and six staff at Aurora Hair Salon at Balloan Park will donate their time to frontline heroes who have been fighting the outbreak.
Currently, all hairdressing outlets are closed because of social distancing measures.
Mr Hall (31), who has run the salon and a sister outlet at The Kingsmills Hotel for the past decade, is keen to show his appreciation.
The move was inspired by the English celebrity stylist Royston Blythe, who has set up a National Hair Sunday offer to NHS workers.
“I just wanted to give something back in the community for all the incredible work the NHS staff are doing for us all,” he said.
“The frontline staff, in particular, are just work, eat, sleep right now in the fight against coronavirus. My own mum is an NHS worker and a lot of our existing clients are too.
“I’m not usually that emotional a guy, but the appreciation I’ve heard in Inverness on the doorsteps on Thursday evenings has been very moving.”
Once working life returns to normal, Mr Hall expects to be inundated with bookings given the adverse effects of the shutdown on clients hairdos.
Be he has and his staff are vowing to keep working Sundays until every NHS worker who asks has been catered for.
“In the short-term, this is obviously a horrendous situation for everyone, but I like to think long-term a lot of good will come of it, in people’s outlook and attitudes,” he said.
“What the NHS staff have done in supporting us all is very humbling.
“I make no bones about it, I hope through this some of the NHS staff who are new to us will be given a good impression of our talented hairdressers and want to come back.”
Mr Hall stressed the offer was for male nurses and doctors on the frontline, as well as females.
