With the average wedding costing almost £21,000, brides to be are being offered a chance to save themselves a fortune – and help charity – at a one-day event in Inverness.

The Highland Hospice wedding shop is reducing its wedding dresses to £250, with all bridesmaids’ dresses selling for £50, this Saturday.

The pop-up shop in Church Street stocks a broad range of donated, brand new and pre-loved dresses as well as wedding accessories such as hats, shoes and bags. It is run by supervisor Nicola MacKiggan-Bisset.

She said: "We opened our own pop-up wedding boutique last year and have had a lot of interest in our dresses.

"With a fantastic range and something to suit most ladies and wedding styles, our sale day is truly unmissable for anyone planning their special big day. Not only will you be saving money, you will also be supporting your local hospice."

The hospice, which cares for adults across the Highlands, is currently in the middle of its Project Build Appeal to rebuild its in-patient unit on Ness Walk, Inverness, and needs to raise a further £930,000 to reach its £4.5 million target.

The project will double the size of the unit at the hospice’s riverside site, upgrade the day therapies centre, provide a quiet sanctuary room and increase space for physiotherapy, occupational therapy and bereavement support.

The new building will house more single rooms, improved family accommodation and provide the scope to develop innovative virtual hospice services which will help extend the reach of hospice care in the region.

* The Highland Hospice wedding shop sale runs from 10am to 4pm with prosecco and sweet treats being served all day.
