FORMER members of Inverness Harriers, who were leading female athletes during the late 1970s and early 1980s, surprised one of their team mates at Sunday’s Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running.

Maureen Morren, who is 55 and was diagnosed with MS in 1993, was taken around the 10k course in a special wheelchair by her former contemporaries who are all aged between 51 and 61 and known as the Golden Harriers.

She has been resident in Cheshire House for some time but had a distinguished running career – as a junior athlete she won a Scottish age group 200m title in 1978 as well as a clutch of other sprint medals.
