Publishers of theThe Inverness Courier, Highland News and Media, are working with SNBTS to secure 5000 blood donations by Easter in our Give Blood, Save Lives campaign, promoting donations sessions, sharing the stories of those who donate and those whose lives have been helped - and even seen their lives saved - by donated blood.
If you are a business, community group or family you can donate together - and we would love to hear from you if you plan to do so: email us at newsdesk@hnmedia.co.uk and let us share your story to inspire others to give too.
SNBTS recruiter, Gillian McCauley, said: “The Nairn session is always brilliant - Nairn donors are incredibly generous, and the evening slots fill up really quickly. However, there’s always this strange gap between 2pm and 3pm which we find particularly hard to fill.
“At the moment we’re really trying to build blood stocks before Easter, and we’re particularly looking for donations from O Positive and O Negative donors. However, we’re also looking for brand new donors, so even if you have no idea of your blood type, we’d love to see you – please do book in. “And seeing as everyone gets a snack and a drink as part of the donation process you could also see it as extending your post-lunch slump with added lifesaving!”
Head of SNBTS in the north, Dr Sylvia Armstrong-Fisher, said: “The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service’s Dr Sylvia Armstrong-Fisher says: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the donors in the area who regularly come to donate.
“Every time you give blood, it’s split into three separate parts (red cells, platelets, and plasma), meaning three lives can potentially be saved or improved with every donation.“
However, we need more - particularly during the afternoon session. Although Nairn is usually a busy session it can be tricky to fill the slots during the afternoon, so if you’re aged 17 or over, essentially fit and healthy, we would absolutely love to see you.
“Blood has a shelf life of just 35 days, so we must make sure supplies are continually replenished, and we fill our upcoming appointments.”
You can book an appointment any time at www.scotblood.co.uk or by calling 0345 90 90 999 (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm).
