Three members of the Lochardil Girlguiding unit in Inverness have completed the Gold Award.

It is the highest achievement for their age group since a new programme was introduced two years ago.

Elena Hamilton (14) and Ailsa Young (13), of Inverness Royal Academy, and Eva Wight (15), of Fortrose Academy, worked towards the award by completing skills development modules such as first aid and camping alongside individual badges such as meditation, geocaching and backwoods cooking.

Dawn Bain, leader at Lochardil guides, said: “The girls have been working really hard towards their Gold Awards and put in a lot of effort and

time outside our weekly meetings.

“One of the guides even used her October holidays to kayak down the River Spey, sleeping out overnight in a hammock, for her adventure challenge.

“They have been with our group for four years and they have been really working towards this achievement from the moment they have joined us.

“I think that what we do it is really important, especially at this time.

“It’s a chance to have fun and build resilience outdoors, and it’s a wonderful way to make friends for life and exercise.”

They were presented with their badges at Dores beach.
