A city centre independent butcher has already noticed an increase in people visiting Inverness since non-essential shops and shopping centres were allowed to reopen.

Duncan Fraser, the manager of Duncan Fraser and Son in Queensgate, said it was still nothing like the volume he would have expected before the lockdown.

As an essential shop he was able to remain open throughout the lockdown, but he still lost trade to local restaurants and hotels which had to close.

He said: “Deliveries took off big style because people were staying at home.

“Definitely there are a lot more people in the city now.”

Mr Fraser said he was determined to help the city recover economically, adding: “We will try our best like everybody else.”

Safety measures which have been introduced at the shop include: only three customers allowed in at once; hand sanitiser; social distancing and staff wearing PPE.

Mr Fraser thought initiatives such as free parking could help encourage more people to visit the city centre.
