Trading got off to a good start for one Inverness fashion retailer, with brisk business during the first weeks they were reopened.

Keith McCaffery, from Cafferys Mens Designerwear in the Eastgate Shopping Centre, was able to reopen the store at its usual base from Monday.

Mr McCaffery said they had lost about three months’ trade but they had managed to keep going through online sales and a pop-up shop opened at Head Gardener in Church Street.

He said: “We’ve done probably one month’s trade via the website, which was very helpful. We had a fantastic two weeks in Head Gardener and actually did the same figures as last year.”

Mr McCaffery said Monday and Tuesday this week were also fantastic, and added: “We’ve had a great reaction from the customers.”

Safety measures introduced at the store include a one-way system; social distancing; hand sanitiser; a perspex screen at the till; signs advising customers of what is expected of them; face masks; and, where possible, contactless payments.

He said it was important that customers returned to the city centre.

“Everyone is wanting to get back out and if they follow the rules and respect other people there is no reason we can’t get back to a new normal. People have got to get out there and support small businesses.”
