A fundraiser looking to establish a new hub for the Gaelic speaking population of the Highlands has hit a new high.

The Fundraising for a Gàidhlig centre in Inverness is now sitting at more than £20,000 in donations.

It was launched by Cultarlann Inbhir Nis in May of this year.

It is hoped that £50,000 can be raised initially to show the support for the idea.

Campaigners hope the £500,000 hub will bring together native speakers, those who have learned the tongue, and those who want to find out more about the language.

Plans include for a cafe with Gaelic speaking staff, a shop, exhibition space, meeting rooms for associated activities and a venue for Ceilidhs and public events.

Inverness has the highest percentage of Gaelic speakers of all the cities in Scotland.
