Nairn store’s future in doubt
A retail chain’s branch on Nairn High Street could close — only after a year it first opened its doors.
The Original Factory Shop first welcomed customers in Nairn in April 2024, after taking over the space left empty by previous occupants M&Co.
However the premises have now been put up for sale by the landlord, leaving the future of the store uncertain.
This comes as The Original Factory Shop has confirmed the closure of a number other branches across the country.
A spokesperson for the company said: “The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) recently confirmed that as part of a restructuring a number of its loss-making stores will have to close.
“Closing stores is always a tough decision, and we are committed to keeping as many stores open as possible. This is, however, dependent on successful negotiations with landlords as we strive to build a sustainable and successful business for the future.
“We have already announced that two stores will close. Additionally, a small number of other stores are currently under review, with their continued operation subject to ongoing negotiations with landlords. These negotiations are commercially sensitive and so we cannot comment on which stores are affected.”
The store is now being listed by TSA Property Consultants, with “for sale” signs in place.
The Original Factory Shop was acquired by Hobbycraft owner Modella Capital in February this year after more than 17 years ownership by private equity firm Duke Street.
The Nairn property, measuring 5771 sq ft, is also available on a new full repairing and insuring head lease for £37,500 p.a.x (negotiable).
Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager, said: “The building has been up for sale since the previous owner, M&Co closed.
“Whilst this leaves uncertainty for the staff at The Original Factory Shop, we are at the moment relieved to learn that at present the Nairn branch is not listed in any closures.
“We appreciate this is a stressful time for the staff and our thoughts are with the Nairn team."
