The funeral of an inspirational mum, who helped raise thousands of pounds in memory of her son, will be held in Nairn on Monday.

The final journey of Susan Hey, who passed away aged 41 after a five-year battle with cancer, will weave its way through the Highland town from 10.30am.

It is hoped townsfolk will line the route to pay respects to the much-loved mum and wife, and Nairn Academy art teacher.

Mrs Hey, along with her husband Sam and daughter Lily, established the Team Hamish charity to raise funds for cancer groups and to create a new splash park on the waterfront of their home town of Nairn.

Husband, Sam Hey, posted a message on the Team Hamish Facebook page announcing the funeral. He said: "We would like to thank you for all for the kind and thoughtful messages that we have received as a family over recent days.

"Susan’s funeral will be held on Monday, June 1 as a private ceremony in accordance with government guidelines. There will be a celebration of Susan’s life at a later date."

Outlining the route of the funeral procession, he continued: "Should you wish to pay your respects on Monday, this is the route of Susan’s final journey, leaving Church Street at 10:30am."
He reminded people to be aware of social-distancing guidelines.

On social media Mrs Hey has been described as 'one in a million' for the work she did to raise awareness of cancer in childhood and her own breast cancer, after she and her family were featured in a moving video for Stand Up To Cancer.

Hamish died aged eight in 2017 after a battle with cancer and his family have raised more than £50,000 in his memory since.
