Extra funding for Raigmore Hospital's Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) has been announced by the Scottish Government.

NHS Highland has secured a share in £2.4 million of funding for maternity services and neonatal refurbishment as part of improvements to regional services.

NHS Highland nurse director Heidi May said: “This will facilitate greater choice for women who wish to deliver at Raigmore Hospital by increasing capacity both in maternity and neonatal services.

"It is also a key part of improved regional service planning across Highland and Grampian health board areas.”

Further details on the funding have yet to be comfirmed by NHS Highland.
