The Gathering has been awarded £10,000 by the EventScotland wing of national tourist body VisitScotland.

A family-friendly one-day festival, it will be held in Inverness’s Northern Meeting Park on June 1, featuring a host of traditional and folk-based bands alongside offerings of craft food and drink from across the Highlands.

Organiser Dougie Brown said: "We are over the moon to have received support from EventScotland in our first outing of The Gathering.

"The support has allowed us to ensure the event is going to be of the highest standard and showcase the very best the region has to offer in terms of music, culture, food, drink and crafts.

"We look forward to The Gathering becoming a permanent fixture in the Scottish event calendar."

Chris Taylor, VisitScotland regional leadership director, said: “I am delighted that The Gathering has received National Events Programme funding in its inaugural year as it sounds like a wonderful festival with some fantastic music, food and drink on offer."

Acts confirmed so far include BBC Radio Scotland 2017 young traditional musician of the year finalist Kim Carnie.

Tickets for the festival are available at Eden Court and The Ironworks as well as online at www.skiddle.com.festivals/thegathering
