Highland Council plans to add to school management

Council getting serious about attainment in Highland schools?

Dire attainment levels in Highland schools appear to have finally provoked a major change by the council. A raft of new measures have been unveiled in a bid to lift the region’s educational record, it having been languishing since before the pandemic.

“More PSA and ASN support would be useful so we are getting it right for every child regardless of age and ability.” - Yvonne Mac

“More managers, more wasted meetings, more money wasted.” - Ian Mackenzie

“Maybe hiring more actual classroom teachers would be better.” - Fiona Smith

“Another layer of managers generating more paperwork for frontline teaching staff? A great way to divert attention for months and months from what needs to be done urgently.” - Gerry Reynolds

Education news

“OMG!!!!! They do not need more managers. Fund schools properly. Hire more support staff. Hire competent Head Teachers and let them do their jobs!!!! Best things most of the senior members of the council can do after that IS STAY WELL AWAY!!!!” - Karen Simpson

“Karen Simpson, it’s the same with the NHS!!! More managers and management layers instead of actual front line staff!!!! So frustrating!!!” - Kirsteen Iona Kelly

“You mean it’s taken this long for Highland Council to realise that learning and teaching are actually important in education? I hope they also mean proper learning and teaching and not more damn silly bandwagons.” - Charles Bannerman

“More managers??? How about more teachers and classroom assistants.” - Donald Cameron

“There’s too many managers as it is. What will quality improvement managers achieve if nothing else changes? If there isn’t going to be an increase in availability at special schools, far more support will be needed in mainstream to provide every student with the full time education they deserve and to reach their full potential, not part time arrangements to fit in with part time support assistant’s shifts. Managers just cost taxpayers a fortune. We have no idea what they actually do on a day to day basis to justify their huge salaries.” - Kim Corbett

“As a society we can no longer afford so many bureaucrats on huge salaries so it’s time to be CUTTING BACK, not taking on even more. The council have to get real. We need PEOPLE ON THE GROUND not folks plinking about on their laptops at home.” - Geordie Hamilton
