TWO friends and their dog canoed the length of the Caledonian Canal during a summer reunion.

Natasha Hazel (28) from Stirling and Johanna Ahlgren (25) from Sweden paddled all the way from Inverness to Fort William accompanied by Natasha's labradoodle Indiana.

Natasha said the intrepid dog, named after Indiana Jones, braved the waves and seemed at ease the whole time.

"She was really calm and really enjoyed the whole trip even when the weather conditions turned quite bad," she said.

"At a point we were caught in rough waves and she leaned over the side, so I thought she wanted to get in the water but them she sat back up with an old green tennis ball in her mouth and just looked so happy with herself. Then she dropped it on my shoes so I just got more soaked!"

Natasha and Johanna met at Stirling University years ago and to celebrate Johanna's birthday she came back to Scotland for an outdoor adventure.

"I have never spent such a long time in the canoe before," Natasha said.

"We spent five days canoeing and camping around. It came up all surprisingly easy in the end, just a couple of hours that we spent paddling in terrible weather before reaching Fort Augustus were particularly exhausting, but the rest went all very well even if the forecasts were not great."
