FREE lunchtime organ concerts are due to start at Inverness Cathedral this Friday.

Run by the cathedral’s director of music and organist Adrian Marple, Let the Organ Thunder will take place every Friday over summer.

Mr Marple will choose a mixture of light-hearted and some popular music but might also take requests.

He said: “We have one of the largest organs in Scotland, and since moving here I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing it. It’s so versatile and has an infinite variety of beautiful and exciting sounds – like an orchestra at your fingertips.

“So many tourists would sit and listen while I was practising, relishing the power of this wonderful instrument, so I thought it would be a good thing to offer them a warm welcome to Inverness with live music. Plus I love playing – so any excuse.”
