FOURTEEN new Covid-19 infections have been detected across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases rose from 4641 to 4655 when the latest daily figures were released on Monday.

Twenty people were being treated for Covid-19 across NHS Highland’s hospitals last night, up one from Sunday. Six of those were in intensive care – a number unchanged since yesterday.

In the past 24 hours there were 386 fresh positive tests across Scotland – or 4.5 per cent of all those carried out in the country yesterday.

The number of Scots in hospital with the virus also fell, dropping 13 to 824.

Of those, some 71 were in intensive care – a fall of seven.

And no deaths were registered in the past 24 hours, although the Scottish Government has repeatedly warned that low figures on Mondays are usually due to registry offices being shut at weekends.

In the north of Scotland, there were once again no fresh infections in either NHS Orkney or NHS Shetland.

NHS Eileanan Siar, meanwhile, detected two further cases – for a running tally of 271.

Thirteen new cases were recorded across NHS Grampian, which saw its cumulative tally rise to 13,476.

And there were 20 new positive tests in NHS Tayside, taking its overall figure to 13,188.

There have been 202,470 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began last spring.

An IT issue meant that vaccination figures for the past 24 hours were not available at the time of writing.
