Highland Council warns motorists in Inverness and on A82 of disruption when temporary four-way traffic lights are put in place to allow vital West Link roadworks to take place
MOTORISTS on the A82 and in Inverness are set to face major disruption when work on the West Link intensifies over the next couple of weeks.
Four-way traffic lights and convoy systems will be in place on the new Torvean roundabout while resurfacing work takes place in the area.
On the completion of the resurfacing on Wednesday afternoon, the traffic will then be diverted onto the surfaced southbound carriageway, with a four-way set of lights left on the roundabout until the morning of Tuesday, November 17. During that work, traffic heading into Inverness on the A82 northbound – and from the site offices/rowing club – will go the opposite way on the roundabout under traffic lights.
Then on Tuesday, November 17 the road will open south of Torvean roundabout, but four-way lights will be operating on the A82 covering a section from the roundabout to Tomnahurich Bridge. This is to "allow preparatory works and planning prior to overnight works" when the road will be closed.
The night-time closures, which will run from 7pm to 6am on both November 18 and 19, will affect a section of the road between Torvean Roundabout and Tomnahurich Swing Bridge to allow surfacing works to be completed. Access will be maintained for the premises, residents, emergency services and bus services.
Following the closures there will "periodic" requirement to operate four-way traffic lights while footpaths, signs and white lines are completed on the A82 and General Booth Road.
"The council apologises for any inconvenience and advises drivers to follow all signage and diversions and to allow extra time for their journeys," said a council spokeswoman.
