FOUR new Covid-19 cases were detected across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 5089 to 5093 when the Scottish Government released the latest daily figures on Monday.

There were 232 positive tests for the virus across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 2.5 per cent of tests over that period.

One-hundred-and-four people were receiving treatment for Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals last night. Of those, 14 were in intensive care.

No fresh deaths were reported among those who tested positive in the past 28 days, although the Scottish Government has cautioned that registry offices are mostly closed at the weekend.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were once again no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian’s total number of cases rose by 18, to 14,791.

And there were 21 new positive tests in NHS Tayside, for a rolling tally of 14,557.

Scotland has now recorded 223,914 positive tests for the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Almost 2.75 million Scots have now received their first Covid vaccination jag, while more than 757,000 have had their second.
