Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club wants to throw open its doors to the public, sell booze to players on the course from a vehicle and increase opening times until 1am.

The move will be considered at Highland Council’s licensing board next week after the golf club made an application for a major variation on its current license.

Last year the club launched a determined fundraising campaign to combat coastal erosion with the club aiming to raise £100,000.

Councillors will be told that the club wishes to “change the premises from a members only club to be open to members of the public and amend the premises description.”

That means changing “the layout plan to increase the current licensed area to allow a motorised vehicle to sell drinks and snacks to golfers only on the links”.

The bid to change its license will also involve letting non-members drink there with new on sales hours until 1am and “to create designated children areas”.

According to officials, following advertised changes and a consultation process, no “timeous objections or representations have been received”.

The matter will be decided on Tuesday.
