A 75-year-old former soldier is cycling the North Coast 500 route for charity.

Jonathan Thomson, a former Royal Marine, set off from Inverness Castle at 8am, determined to conquer the North Coast 500 route in aid of PTSD Resolution, a charity that helps veterans, reservists and their families who have suffered trauma in the armed services.

Sent on his way by Councillor Carolyn Caddick, she received a special plaque from Jonathan to mark the occasion.

A group of local fiddlers also played to mark his departure.

His aim is to complete the route within the week.
