A former patient at New Craigs Psychiatric Hospital in Inverness has welcomed an apology from NHS Highland, but said mistakes made continue to impact his health.

Peter Todd (38), of Thurso, attended New Craigs in 2019 but was told he could not stay overnight after previous complaints about his behaviour.

He complained to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) that he was given no opportunity to address these complaints.

SPSO found NHS Highland had failed to keep a record of them, did not notify him about them and failed to allow him to respond.

NHS Highland was told to apologise to Mr Todd, which it has done.

Mr Todd said: “It is a two-day trip for me to visit Inverness for an appointment as I do not drive and I use public transport.

“I’m happy with the ombudsman’s outcome.

“However, there are still many questions that remain, which I’ve now taken to the Scottish Government.

“Being banned somewhere because of rumours is detrimental to anyone’s mental health.”
