Footballer Zander Sutherland has hit the net again – with his second successive annual National House Building Council (NHBC) pride in the job award.

The Invernessian has again won the accolade for his role as site manager at Tulloch Homes’ Broomhill development in Muir of Ord.

The former Caley Thistle, Buckie Thistle and Brora Rangers winger was only promoted to site manager 23 months ago. Mr Sutherland (31) will collect his award in Glasgow in autumn.

“Once again, the honour is shared with the Tulloch team at Broomhill, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail impressed the NHBC inspectors when they made a return visit north,” he said. “Two awards on the spin for the same development is quite remarkable and shows we’re continuing to tick the right boxes.”

George Fraser, chief executive of Tulloch Homes, said: “We’re delighted for Zander and it’s a hat trick for us as Lewis Mackinnon won the award for The Parks, Inverness, in 2017 and is now in charge of our showpiece 800-unit Ness Side development which is now under way.

“Zander’s double is another striking success for our ‘grow your own’ site management strategy, which produces an assembly line of trained personnel who are ingrained with the Tulloch approach and our focus on safety and quality.

“Keeping our door open for talent is a key element in why we’re the Highlands’ largest housebuilder and are now back in the central belt.”

Elsewhere, site managers leading the work at all three of Barratt Homes’ Inverness locations have won top national awards for the quality of their work.

Alan Wharton (39) from Inverness, Jeff Calder (56) from Alness, and John Dawson (54) from Elgin, who site manage at Ness Castle, Mains of Culduthel and Culloden West respectively, have each been recognised in the awards.

David Palmer, managing director from Barratt North Scotland, said: “We are very proud of the example being set by our teams in Inverness where all three of our communities have been acknowledged for the best practice being delivered by their site manager.”
