A retired head teacher is using her passion for art to support her local football team.

Trish Hossack, who taught at both Merkinch and Ardersier Primaries, has been a follower of Nairn County since childhood when her father, Willie Downie, ran a newsagent’s shop near the town’s Station Park.

"Dad got a lot of business from fans going up to the games and he sold the sports papers the Green Final and Football Times on Saturday evenings," she said.

"He was not really a football person, but he always supported the club.

"I do painting purely as a hobby and am a member of Inverness and Nairn Art Societies.

"I’ve gathered quite a few paintings and once you exhibit them, you are not allowed to show them again so people don’t see the same paintings over and over again."

Deciding to sell her work in aid of the football club, she said: "Sales have made a few hundred pounds and in these difficult times, it’s good to be able to help the club out.

"I love the ethos of Nairn County and what it’s doing in the community supporting young people in a variety of ways, bringing on local talent through their youth set-up, and during Covid they have been helping people who are living in isolation."

A season ticket holder and club sponsor, Trish was also a football coach during her teaching career.

"The best player I ever had was Finella Annand at Arderiser who went on to play for Scotland," she said.

"She had two great feet and fantastic vision."

Trish’s paintings are exhibited at Nairn Town Barbers in High Street.

"Four local scenes have sold and there are some others still for sale," she said.
