Order of Malta volunteers hand out Christmas parcels to those in need in Inverness
A HUMANITARIAN aid organisation has been helping the homeless and disadvantaged people in Inverness this week.
Volunteers representing the Order of Malta handed out Christmas parcels filled with toiletries on Monday evening from the Ar n-Àite café in the former Dunbar Centre in Church Street.
Mark Lindley-Highfield, Inverness area local co-ordinator and companion of the order, and Father Len Black, of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in Scotland, joined the volunteers to help out.
The bags of toiletries were aimed at easing people’s financial burden during the festive period and recipients were also given a free hot warm meal from the café.
On Tuesday Father Len and Mr Lindley-Highfield were joined by Angus Hay, the Order of Malta’s regional coordinator for the North of Scotland, and Godfrey, 34th hereditary chief of the Macdonald clan, and world-renowned cook and food writer Claire Macdonald.
Mr Lindley-Highfield said the two events in Inverness were an opportunity for the homeless and the needy of the city to benefit from receiving bags of toiletries and clothing to help see them through the winter.
