A POSSIBLE flu 'outbreak' at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness has forced the closure of a ward to new admissions.

Ward 7C has been closed to new admissions after a rise in the number of patients diagnosed with the virus.

"Eight patients have tested positive for flu and as a precaution, this is being treated as a possible outbreak," said a spokeswoman for NHS Highland.

"Relatives and friends are being asked to avoid visiting Ward 7C if at all possible and must telephone the nurse in charge before travelling to the hospital," they added.

The ward can be reached by calling the Raigmore Hospital Switchboard on 01463 704 000.
