Flood-hit Inverness Asian food store Saffron Oriental Food Shop set to re-open against expectations

A flood-hit Asian food store in the centre of Inverness is set to re-open tomorrow against expectations.

Saffron Oriental Food Shop in the city’s Church Street was found to be flooded when opened this morning by owner Kasia Pogodzinka.

There were fears the damage to the premises, rented from the Mercure Hotel above it, would cost the business thousands of pounds in lost stock if freezers within the store had to be switched off for safety reasons.

But Ms Pogodzinka took to social media late this afternoon to give a much more encouraging update.

She said: “Hopefully we will be able to re-open tomorrow!

“The electrician has been and checked everything. We are able to use the freezers, the till and the lights at the front of the shop.

“It has been a long, sad and emotional day, but thanks so much for all the support and positive vibes.”
