Inverness marks Armed Forces Week with flag-raising ceremony at town house
A flag-raising ceremony has been held at Inverness Town House today to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.
The week-long celebration gives people across the UK a chance to pay tribute to serving military personnel, veterans and cadets.
Across the country, there will be a range of events taking place throughout the week, culminating in Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
Provost of Inverness and area, Councillor Glynis Campbell Sinclair took the salute at this morning’s event in the Highland capital, alongside Wing Commander Shane Spence and David Sutherland.
She said: “This is a chance for us to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from serving personnel to service families, veterans and cadets.
“This flag raising ceremony is an opportunity to recognise the work that our Armed Forces do to protect our country and show our deep appreciation for their service. They would not be able to undertake their role without the incredible support of their family and friends.”
2025 is a significant year to pay tribute to the Armed Forces as this year also marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with a number of commemorative events having already taken place to mark that milestone throughout June.
To mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday flags will be raised on buildings and landmarks around the country, including at Inverness Town House and Highland Council’s headquarters on Glenurquhart Road.
There will also be an Armed Forces Day Parade at 1.45pm led by the Inverness Royal British Legion Scotland Band, which will march from the Eastgate Shopping Centre to Inverness Cathedral for a Drumhead service supported by the Inverness Military Wives Choir.
