Flag raising ceremony in Inverness marks the start of Armed Forces Week
A flag raising ceremony will commence next week in Inverness to mark the start of Armed Forces Week which also culminates in Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 29.
The raising of the flag takes place each year at sites across the UK to show public support and thanks to service personnel.
Armed Forces Day flags will be raised on buildings and landmarks around the country including at Inverness Town House and Highland Council’s Headquarters at Glenurquhart Road.
Provost of Inverness and area, Cllr Glynis Campbell Sinclair said: “This is a chance for us to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving personnel to service families, veterans, and cadets.
“We will honour our armed forces on June 24 in Inverness with this simple flag raising ceremony to recognise the work that they do protecting our communities and country.
“Our armed forces couldn’t do their job without the incredible support of their family and friends.
“Highland Council continues to support the armed forces through its lead role within the Armed Forces Covenant which is a commitment and demonstration of our support alongside our partners, to our armed forces community.
“We give our humble support in this time-honoured flag ceremony to show our appreciation for the troops and their families.”
A short flag raising ceremony will take place in the main hall of Inverness Town House on Monday, June 24, commencing at 10:45am and a welcome by the Provost of Inverness at 10:50am. This will then be followed by the Rev John Cuthbert, who will give a blessing at 10:53am and there will be a short flag raising ceremony at 10:55am.
