L'Arche Highland's Postcard Project goes on show at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Inverness
MEMBERS of an Inverness-based charity will have their first exhibition since lockdown in the city centre this week.
The artwork of over twenty participants to the lifeskills workshop at L'Arche Highland will be shown at Eastgate Shopping Centre from tomorrow.
Workshop participants created the artwork for Project Postcard and were also involved in the organisation of the event.
Lifeskills workshop leader, Kirsty Holm, said: “We were looking for a project to work with, and as we had heard about the opening of the shop we asked Louise, the owner, whether she would have a space for us. She said yes, so we thought about what kind of artwork we could put up, and we decided to do something that would be universal for everybody to take part in, but also something that all looks good together.
Based in Inverness, L’Arche Highland supports people with learning disabilities by running four group houses as well as a variety of workshops such as gardening and woodwork, among other services.
“The members are very involved in what happens at L’Arche,” sais Ms Holm.
“We are very big about saying ‘It’s not about doing for people, is about doing with people’, and for the adults here is very important that they are empowered to make their own choices and to have their say in what they are doing in what they are creating.
“It's like a fresh start after having all been apart for so long."
The exhibition will run from Wednesday, October 13 to October 18 and it will be on show at One of Kind, Louise Innes Contemporary Art shop at Eastgate Centre, with an open night on Thursday, October 14 from 5pm.
