Nairnshire Christmas tractor run grand total revealed as £12,600 raised for charity
A Nairnshire Christmas event raised a whopping £12,600 in its first year running, it has been confirmed.
Hosted by the Nairnshire Farming Society in partnership with Nairn Rotary and the Nairn Junior Agricultural Club, the Nairnshire Charity Illuminated Tractor Run was a hit for locals and visitors and will support four charities supporting the local community.
Organisers said they are delighted with the final grand sum raised and that they are looking to run the event again this year.
A spokesperson said: “A special thanks to the sponsors and businesses who supported the tractor run; Willie Lean, our main sponsor whose support helped us put on the event; our tractor class sponsors Moray Coast Vet Group, Ritson Young, NFU Inverness and Elgin Branch and Wester Hardmuir.
“The organising group have agreed to host another run for 2025: set your diaries for Saturday, December 6, for another fantastic community event to raise money for charity and witness the farming community put on an amazing display.”
The charities supported with the first edition are Mikeysline, Royal Highland Education Trust, Held in our Hearts and Brain Tumour Research.
Mikeysline will utilise the funds to cover councillors sent into Nairn Academy to help children with their mental health. This could be on an ongoing case to support a child or a one-off if someone is going through a stressful time and to teach coping mechanisms.
The donation will be used by Royal Highland Education Trust to put together an education box full of educational tools to teach young children in Nairnshire primary schools about where their food comes from, about the countryside and how to look after it.
Baby loss support charity Held in our Hearts said they will use the money to fund counselling for families and group sessions hosted at Glen Mhor and The Kingsmill hotels.
The donation will also support the research into treatment and cures for brain tumors through the dedicated charity.
