Inverness to Gran Canaria direct flights by Murray Travel

After nearly three years of planning, Highland-based Murray Travel will launch a direct flight service from Inverness to Gran Canaria - taking off for the first time on February 17, 2026.

The new route - a first of its kind from Inverness Airport - marks a major milestone for the independent travel company.

The programme will run for five consecutive weeks and is the latest in a string of innovative moves from Murray Travel, which is also organising a Lapland trip in December - which sold out in just three days, resulting in an additional trip being added.

The firm’s co-founder Scott Murray said: “This has been almost three years in the making, and we couldn’t be prouder.

“As a Highland business, we’ve always believed in the potential of our local airport, and we’re delighted to finally bring this project to life. Gran Canaria is a hugely popular destination, and now Highland travellers can fly direct from their doorstep - no long layovers or stressful connections needed. And no driving up the A9 at 2am after a long flight!”

More business news

Murray Travel - which has branches in Inverness, Nairn, Forres and Elgin - confirmed that if the initial programme proves successful, it will look to expand with more destinations and dates in future seasons.

Flight-only and full package holidays to Gran Canaria will be available exclusively through Murray Travel. Holidays will be sold under its package holiday company MTHolidays, which was set up to operate the charter programme.

“The dream is to make the Highlands feel less cut off,” Mr Murray added. “We’ve proven with Lapland that the appetite is there - people want unique, high-quality travel experiences that start right here at home. This is just the beginning.”

Graeme Bell, general manager of Inverness Airport, said: “The launch of the first-ever direct route from Inverness to Gran Canaria is a great addition to our schedule, offering Highland travellers a new opportunity for some winter sun.

“It is a great addition to the growing leisure flight options from Inverness Airport and we look forward to welcoming passengers heading off to the Canary Islands.”
