The 2022 Highland Business Women Awards, sponsored by the Springfield Group, is returning again this August to the Kingsmills Hotel.

Hosted by Nicky Marr and with nominations open, it is now time to announce the first category for this year’s awards.

Sponsored by Business Gateway, the new business of the year award will recognise the up and coming in the region over the last 12 months.

Last year’s winner was Grazey Days which was created by Jenny Whyte, during the pandemic.

Winning the award last year was a massive boost for Ms Whyte who initially began working from her kitchen, where she created Grazey Days to deliver breakfasts, afternoon teas and other tasty treats to customers in the Inverness area.

On winning the award in 2021, she said: “It meant so much to me winning the new business of the year award at the Highland Business Women Awards.

“This is because it wasn’t based on popularity but it was based on my business and how I had built it.

“I would encourage people to nominate others because it really gave me a boost as a new business owner.

“I still have it displayed on my website today that I was a winner as it is such brilliant recognition.”

A spokesman from the category sponsor, Business Gateway, said: “The entrepreneurial spirit of women in the Highlands is still booming despite a pandemic and an economy which continues to be challenging.

“Our start-up grants have helped new businesses and we are now back to pre-pandemic levels.

“Over half the new businesses in the last year in the Highlands are headed by women, so we’re delighted to be sponsoring the new business award.”

The category is open to both members and non-members of HBW.
