Albert Insch was found dead hours after making a 999 call to police

AN Inverness sheltered housing complex has promised to learn whatever lessons it can following the death of a pensioner resident.

Police are being investigated over their response to a 999 call from city man Albert Insch (72) on the afternoon of October 26.

Officers told relatives "no service was requested and the call was not traced so there was no response" to Mr Insch’s call.

He was found dead in his flat at MacEwen Court at about 8.45am the following day.

Speaking this week, Cairn Housing Association, which operates the complex, said it had not been approached by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, which is carrying out the investigation.

However, the company’s head of business development Fin Smith said the association was "available should they need us at any point".

He added: "It’s important to note that this is an investigation of the police and how they responded in this situation.

"It’s also important to understand the nature of the accommodation we have at MacEwen Court – it is sheltered housing which means the accommodation is effectively residents’ own private homes.

"Assistance is available should they need it, but unless it forms part of a specific care package it wouldn’t be normal for staff to be entering accommodation of this kind uninvited at any point.

"We obviously review policies and procedures frequently and whatever lessons we can learn from this incident will be taken on board.

"Our thoughts are with Mr Insch’s family at this time."
