A LATE Christmas present of £200 has been delivered to a charity in Nairn by the town's firefighters.

Team Hamish - a charity set up by Susan and Sam Hey in memory of their son, eight-year-old Hamish, who died in 2017 after a long battle with cancer - received the donation yesterday.

It plans to create improvements for the town in memory of Hamish, including having a vision of transforming the waterfront.

The donation came after the firefighters raised money for local charities when they arranged for Santa to get back in his sleigh doing the rounds in Nairn after a 10-year break.

The big man was back in his rightful place thanks to firefighter John McGowan who spotted the trailer that once carried him through the housing schemes lying dumped behind Brackla Distillery.

The landscape gardener decided it was time to bring the dormant Christmas tradition back to the town.

He bought the trailer and asked comrades at the fire station to help him revive the custom.

And for a fortnight over the festive season Santa and his firefighting friends toured the neighbourhoods, dancing and singing, music booming from the trailer, giving out sweeties, enchanting young and old and raising money for good causes.

Team Hamish stated last night: "We would like to say a huge thank you to Nairn fire service. Today we received a cheque for £200 following their fundraising at Christmas time.

"Hamish spent a very special evening with them, being a firefighter, in 2016. He loved every second."
