Inverness fire-ravaged building’s neighbour ‘not damaged’ by blaze, confirms club
An Inverness bowling club has confirmed that it was not damaged in a fire which devastated several businesses immediately next door.
The Inverness and District Indoor Bowling Club sits next to a building in the Fairways Business Park that was destroyed in a major blaze in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Several businesses within that site - SJ Travel Centre, Hair Chic, Scottish Premium Seafood, and Harry Gow - were completely gutted by the flames.
But despite the club and a couple of other local businesses being right beside that building, firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading.
And in an update on Sunday, the indoor bowling club confirmed that there was no damage to its stadium.
It will remain closed for all of Sunday however, as too will the Inverness Kart Raceway, which also sits next door.
A spokesperson for the indoor bowling club said: "Due to the fire in the shops next to the stadium, we will not be open today. (no damage to the stadium). The Top5 competition due to be played today is postponed. We will post the new date when we have it."
The Fairways Golf Centre and Restaurant also appears to have avoided damage, after the business revealed it will be able to reopen to customers once emergency services have finished at the scene.
However, they urged the public to be patient and allow emergency crews to finish their work.
A spokesperson for the restaurant and bar said: "Unfortunately as many will be aware we are unable to open just yet due to the terrible incident that occurred to our neighbouring businesses last night.
"We ask all guests with bookings for their patience as we await updates from emergency services and allow them to finish their job.
"Once we get the go ahead that the car park reopens we will be open to customers. We thank you for your patience."
