Eden Court Inverness to host Take One Action film festival 2025
The Take One Action film festival comes to Inverness this weekend, running from Friday October 10 to Sunday October 12.
Held at Eden Court Theatre, the festival brings global films and local workshops to the Highlands, featuring work from Mexico, Kenya, Japan and the UK.
Under the theme ‘Real Utopias,’ the programme explores pressing issues such as climate change, housing, queer identity and community activism.
Highlights include the documentaries Power Station and NIÑXS, and the archive film Red Skirts on Clydeside, shown with Living Rent Highlands to explore tenants’ rights.
For the first time, the festival includes local co-programming, with the Eden Court Cinema Youth Board selecting screenings including the Japanese teen thriller Happyend and Scottish short A Different Home.
Alongside screenings, visitors can take part in hands-on workshops, including zine-making with Highland Zine Bothy and Seeds of Cinema: Growing Film Communities in the Highlands and Islands,” which helps people run their own local film events.
Festival director Rachel Hamada said:
"The selection of films and events we have for you embody this year's theme of Real Utopias - both messy and beautiful. All of our screenings and workshops should hopefully leave you with a spring in your step and ideas for what to do next."
All screenings are accessible, with descriptive subtitles, live BSL interpretation, live captions, pay-what-you-can tickets, and travel and childcare support.
After Inverness, the festival continues in Dundee from November 7-9. Full programme and booking information can be found online.
