Ferry skipper's car damaged after row in Inverness car park

A row in an Inverness car park led to a ferry skipper’s vehicle being damaged with a knife.
Captain John MacArthur, who works for Calmac, had driven to the Co-op store in Tomatin Road, Inverness, on October 24 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that when he arrived there was only one vacant space but Andrew Adams (40), of Tomatin Road, was standing in it and refused to make way, saying the spaces were for flat owners above the shops.
The pair argued before another vehicle then left the car park, allowing 65-year-old MacArthur to get parked.
He said that he was alerted in the shop by a workman that Adams had scratched his car with a knife.
He denied that he had driven his car at Adams and also said the car had not been damaged beforehand.
Engineer James Fraser (32) said he heard Adams threaten to damage the car, saw him take out a Swiss Army knife and heard the sound of the vehicle being damaged.
Finding Adams guilty after trial, Sheriff Sara Matheson ordered him to pay Captain MacArthur £500 compensation.
