MSP Fergus Ewing confirms he will stand at 2021 Holyrood election

Inverness and Nairn MSP Fergus Ewing, has confirmed that he will stand at next year's Holyrood election stating that he has unfinished business.
Mr Ewing has put his name forward as a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the SNP in a bid to retain the Inverness and Nairn seat at the Scottish Parliament elections taking place on May 6.
Mr Ewing was elected to the first Scottish Parliament in 1999 and has since successfully defended his seat four times the latest being in 2016.
He said: “It’s been an honour and a pleasure to work as the MSP for Inverness and Nairn, and formerly the Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber seat, since 1999.
“Representing people to the best of my ability, and irrespective of their party preference, has been my primary role. Advocating the interests of this part of Scotland in Holyrood has been a privilege.
“I do have unfinished business. The first, of course, is the restoration of independence for Scotland. The second is the delivery of a response to the Covid-19 crisis by helping those who have lost their livelihoods into new jobs or opportunities. The third is the completion of vital improved and safer transport links to the North.
“I am therefore pleased to submit my name to the Scottish National Party as a prospective parliamentary candidate and I’m ready to continue to work hard and to the best of my ability as a Scottish Parliamentary representative for the constituency of Inverness and Nairn.”
Mr Ewing’s announcement has been backed by Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP, Drew Hendry (SNP).
He said: “Fergus works tirelessly for the people of Inverness and Nairn and for 21 years, has been an outstanding representative for our local communities. His successes as an MSP are many, including making significant progress to dual the A9 from Perth to Inverness and securing funding to transform Inverness Castle into a world-class visitor attraction.
"Indeed, Fergus has been the driving force behind the Castle project, the building of a new Inverness Sheriff Court and securing the site for the proposed new Inverness Prison. Perhaps most importantly, he goes to great lengths to help constituents who turn to him in their time of need.
He added: "In the current Covid crisis he has worked tirelessly to support the Tourism sector, and his efforts have made a massive difference to many of our local tourism businesses."
“In Government and the constituency, Fergus has a well-earned reputation for taking on the tough tasks and seeing them through to success.
"I am delighted he will be seeking re-election, and I look forward to continuing our work to deliver better outcomes for local families and our communities."
