Inverness driver refused to give blood samples due to fear of needles

Police received an anonymous phone call about a motorist and tracked him down with the intention of testing him for drink or drugs.

But when officers caught up with 24-year-old Patrick Stewart, of Longman Caravan Park, Inverness on the city's Glenurquhart Road, he refused to co-operate with providing blood samples to check for the intoxicants, Sheriff David Harvie heard.

Stewart appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and two offences of failing to provide samples, committed on March 1 and the early hours of March 2.

He told police that he had a phobia for needles.

Stewart was fined a total of £640 and banned from driving for a year.
