A City Sightseeing Bus tour is “just the ticket” for families of patients in the Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital.
For, in a donation worth in excess of £20,000, D&E Coaches has presented 500 family tickets to Archie Highland, the official charity of the Children’s Unit.
Mary Nimmo, chairwoman of Archie Highland, said: “It’s a wonderful gesture which will be greatly appreciated by families in the weeks and months ahead.
“Parents of sick children often have other boys and girls and it would be a treat for them to visit places like Culloden Battlefield. A sightseeing trip with their mum and dad could also be enjoyed by patients allowed out of hospital for an hour or two.
“The initial response from parents on learning of this offer is that they’re extremely grateful to D&E for their generosity. People from other parts of the Highlands can take advantage in between hospital visits.”
Donald Mathieson, founder and managing director of D&E Coaches, said: “When we recently acquired the franchise for the hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus, I had the idea that families of children in the hospital could benefit.
“There’s a great deal of stress involved in having a child in hospital, and a trip like this could give a wee break to parents and the boys and girls.
“We’re happy to be able to help such a deserving cause, with which we’ve been involved for years.”
In May, Mr Mathieson was appointed a patron of The Archie Foundation.
A family ticket for the City Sightseeing Bus is £24 per route or £45 for the two routes.
Archie Highland raised £2 million for Raigmore’s world-class children’s facility which opened five years ago and continues fundraising to equip the unit with cutting-edge technology as well as supporting parents of patients in a range of ways.
