The Inca city of Machu Picchu, 8000ft up in the Andes, is the target for Blythswood worker Danny Muschate, his wife Morag and their son James McGillivray.

Paying their own way for the nine-day adventure, they have already secured at least £7000 in donations to the charity.

The family will be joined by six other Blythswood supporters for a trek that will guarantee the charity at least £15,000.

James, a 27-year-old hotel manager and globe-trotter, made the pilgrimage a few years ago and inspired his parents to join him on a return trip

The money raised will go to two educational projects in Romania, one offering life skills training to young men leaving state care, the other an after-school programme that gives learning support to young teenagers from deprived homes.
