Leonard Bowden, a “computer whizz” from Inverness died of a heart attack after only recently making a new home in Portugal with his wife and children.

After the 45-year-old's sudden death on June 8, a fundraising campaign for Chest, Heart and Stroke has raised more than £550.

James Bowden, Mr Bowden’s oldest son, said his dad was proud of all his achievements, and in the last few months of his life had followed his dream of living abroad.

He said: “My dad was a computer whizz. He could do anything with a computer.

“He had a few jobs until he started with the Inverness Computer Centre. Once he found his niche in computers, he knew that was the job for him.

“When he left the computer centre he began to work as a contractor to NCR who do the computers.

“He loved his job, and there were very few things he didn’t know about computer systems and cash registers.

“He once even took over the voice control while we were eating in one of the restaurants, and it made us all laugh at the confusion he caused. He was such a prankster, and we have so many good memories of him.

“For many years he wanted to live abroad, and he and my step-mum Nicola and their children were able to do that.

“He had been living in Portugal and he loved it there. It was when he was back in Inverness for work during the lockdown that he had a heart attack.

“We will be forever grateful to his friend who did CPR on him allowing him to live for the time that was needed, so that we could all say our goodbyes to him in Raigmore.”

Nicola said: “He was the love of my life, and this has been a huge shock.

“He was a wonderful man and dad, I cannot imagine life without him.

“We thought we would be able to raise £200 for the Chest, Heart and Stroke charity. We have been blown away by all of the kind donations in his memory.”

Mr Bowden had six children and two step-children.
