A Falkirk man who earns £45,000 a year has been ordered to pay £800 in compensation to a man he attacked with a bottle.

Scott Gray, of Carron View, was out drinking with workmates in R and Bs bar in Inverness city centre on February 22 when he became involved in an altercation.

He admitted punching the man repeatedly before striking him on the head with the bottle. His victim sustained a small cut near his left eye.

Defence solicitor Graham Mann said: “He doesn’t have a recollection of this, having been out drinking with

workmates.”

Sheriff Sara Matheson told 32-year-old Gray that she had been considering a jail sentence for the assault.

But she agreed with Mr Mann’s suggestion of compensation.

“I view this very seriously,” said the sheriff. “Any assault with a bottle is very grave.

“You will need to think about your drinking in future.”
