ALL the fun of the fair returned to Nairn, and after two years without the town's main summer attraction – the Nairn Highland Games – the "showies" has become a major crowd-puller.

Traditionally they always begin arriving a fortnight before the games which would have taken place on Saturday but were cancelled due to the pandemic.

By Friday night many of the bigger rides had arrived on the Links and the showmen and their families had them all erected and Nairnites and visitors were able to enjoy some of the traditional fun-packed day, thanks to the easing of pandemic-related restrictions.

Provost Laurie Fraser said: “Although we didn’t have the athletics, the field competitions, piping and dancing it was good to see the showies back.

“I’m sure everyone had a great weekend and fingers crossed next year things will have improved and we can go ahead with the games which are sorely missed.

“It’s so much a part of the summer in Nairn when the community can get together.

“But it was nice to see everyone having fun at the showies.”
